Deborah Allen is an award winning artist from Little Rock. Her current work (Story Art) focuses on recording story, memory and heritage through brilliant displays of color. The mixed media paintings are both abstract and figurative with an intensive attention to the surface. Allen begins by applying layers of a plaster like medium to a wood structure in which she imprints found objects and manipulates the plaster to give the impression of age and a suggestion of history. She incorporates handwriting, symbols, mementos and paints detailed images onto each piece to create beautiful heirlooms. Her work is available by commission.
