Scott Baldassari was born in Chicago. After spending several years traveling around the country, and many years as a successful business man in Chicago, he came to the Ozarks in the 70's in search of a simpler life. As a child he was inspired and encouraged by a family full of artists, but is without any "institutional" art Training.
For the past 15 years Scott has lived deep in the Ozark Mountains, raising children, livestock, and vegetables, chopping wood, hauling water and painting his landscapes. He lives a most casual existence, without clocks, TV, telephones, and until just recently, electricity. His work has been sold in hundreds of galleries and shops around the country, and he has done “more art shows than he wants to think about”. The last few years have found him doing less traveling and more painting.
A very prolific painter, he spends all the time he can in the creeks, on the bluffs, and sometimes at scenic turn outs in Newton County painting and peddling his near photo realistic acrylic works. Many of his rustic and natural scenes are framed in his own handmade frames which he recycles himself from fallen barns and buildings from the area. Every painting has a story, and some his portraits and genre paintings tempt you to write your own.
His colorful paintings “come from the gut” and are literate interpretations of the beauty of life all around us. An eternally upbeat and optimistic soul, he calls his work “romantic realism”; but these are paintings which require no explanations. They are heartfelt and easily related to, a pleasure for the eye - time after time.
