Thu Nguyen, Hot Springs

ARTIST WEBSITE:

Thu Nguyen was born in Saigon, Vietnam where she spent much of my childhood making quilts, doll clothes and paintings. One of her paintings won "Best of show" prize at a 1974 children's exhibition in Saigon sponsored by UNICEF. In 1975 she was separated from her family and after a traumatic boat voyage to HongKong she lived there prior to immigrating to the United States where she finally settled in Los Angeles.
She first worked primarily in oil on panel focusing on figurative work, but during the last 10 years, she began to explore the landscapes but would again return to figurative work from time to time. Thu received an art degree from Cal State University, Long Beach. I received two grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and three times grants from the Elizabeth Greenshield Foundation.
Her work is represented in the Smithsonian collection, Washington, D.C., San Jose Museum of Art in San Jose California, Long Beach Museum of Art in Long Beach California, Downey Museum of Art in Downey California, Whatcom Museum of history and art in Bellingham Washington, Wing Luke Asian Art Museum in Seattle Washington, Bass Art Museum in Miami Florida, Longview Art Museum in Longview Texas, The Art Center of Waco in Waco Texas, McDonalds Corporation and Vifon Corporation in Saigon, Vietnam as well as many other public and private collections. Her work can be seen in Taylor's Contemporanea Gallery in Hot Springs Arkansas. Thu is available for commission.
