V. L. Cox, North Little Rock

ARTIST BIO:

V.L. Cox was born in Shreveport Louisiana and later moved to Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where she acquired a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Henderson State University in 1991. Cox's work sets in motion an unrivaled interplay of textures, forms and colors, which depict strong emotions. Her contemporary art is powerful, imaginative and unprecedented in style. Her representational art tells a story. Each piece conveys a message about issues in the world today. Cox is committed to art and the discovery of new and exciting ideas and techniques. She has a keen and sensitive eye for three-dimensional detail and its impact on all aspects of design and composition in a work of art. In the eyes of the observers, Cox's paintings combine composition and depth, which are powerful but calming to compel the viewer to interact with the artwork.
One of her most important achievements was painting the background for the National Civil Rights Humanities Awards in Memphis, Tennessee where Leah Rabin, wife of slain Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, spoke and presented the award for freedom. In 1999, Cox was selected for the 1999 International Women's Works Competition in Chicago, Illinois. Her entry was an Americana painting depicting people and southern life in the past and present.
Her work can be found in private and corporate collections from Dallas, Texas to Washington, D.C. Her progress in the art world has been rapid. She is a member of the National Women's Caucus for Art.
